False Alarm of the Day: LAPD Surrounds a Statue of Ghost from Call of Duty Posted: 05 Jun 2013 04:02 PM PDT Los Angeles Police Department officers found themselves in a rather awkward situation at the Robotoki video game developer studio after an employee accidentally hit their security system's "armed threat" panic button. The office just happened to have a life-sized statue of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 character Simon "Ghost" Riley on display by the entrance, armed with a menacing-looking mock assault rifle. When police arrived on the scene and noticed the gun-wielding figure, they immediately stormed the building in a tense 15-minute standoff. After realizing the effigy was not a threat, the police reportedly left the building while laughing at the absurd incident. Submitted by: Unknown (via Geekscape) |

Web Developer Bypasses 6-Second Upload Limit on Vine, Crashes the Site Posted: 05 Jun 2013 10:00 AM PDT Cleveland-based web developer Will Smidlein thought he would poke around with Vine's code seeing as it was just released on the Android platform. To test his meddling, Smidlein posted the full-length version of "Never Gonna Give You Up" to Vine, which technically only allows user video posts to be 6 seconds or shorter. It wasn't long before Twitter, creators of Vine, had one of their engineers contact Smidlein directly and asked him to please remove his video, as it was causing some "technical difficulties." Smidlein promptly deleted the video and was rather apologetic about the whole situation: Don't feel too bad, Will. The engineers probably shouldn't have pushed such easily breakable code in the first place.
